A Financial Viability for Increasing the Added Value of Hygienic Boiled Bamboo Shoot Products of Tha Li District, Loei Province

Abstract

The objectives of this study were 1) to analyze the costs and returns of hygienic boiled bamboo shoot products and 2) to evaluate the financial viability of the long-term production of hygienic boiled bamboo shoots. This study employed structured interviews by targeting the main population of boiled bamboo shoot producers in Tha Li District, Loei Province, totaling 80 people. The period of data collection was between April 2022 to April 2023. The study results concluded that 1) the production of hygienic boiled bamboo shoot products had the total costs per year of 265,800 baht. In addition, the total returns specified sales income of 500,000 baht per year, an annual net profit of 234,200 baht, and a net profit to production cost ratio of 88.11%, 2) In terms of evaluating the financial viability of the production process of hygienic bamboo shoots over a period of 5 years with an interest rate of 4.44%, it was found that the project of hygienic boiled bamboo shoot products had payback period in 0.13 years or 2 months, a net present value of 999,853,85 baht, and break-even point of 1,236.09 pieces of items. In addition, the internal rate of return was 781%, indicating that the project was worth the investment. To increase the value of the investment, emphasis should be placed on reducing costs at each stage of production. Adding value to pasteurized boiled bamboo shoot products enabled the villagers to have careers and increases income for their families. The community also lived a good, self-sufficient life and lived happily in harmony with nature. It showed that this product can create sustainable income for people in the Tha Li District community.
