Leadership Competencies Enhancing the Capabilities of Organization Management Consultants

The objectives of this research were to: 1) study the level of leadership competency that enhanced organizational management consultants' capabilities and 2) analyze the relationships between components of leadership competency that enhanced organizational management consultants' capabilities. This quantitative research utilized questionnaires to collect data from 384 department-level managers in retail businesses, food businesses, service businesses, and educational institutions. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including mean and standard deviation, and inferential statistics including exploratory factor analysis and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results revealed that: 1) The level of leadership competency that enhanced organizational management consultants' capabilities was highest in ethics and professional standards ( = 4.74, SD = .345), especially in maintaining organizational confidentiality, followed by leadership and management (
= 4.59, SD = .471), especially in emotional control, consulting operation environment (
= 4.57, SD = .467), especially in understanding customers’ requirement and professional and personal development (
= 4.60, SD = .459), especially in communication skill and active listening, respectively. 2) The relationship analysis identified six components with positive correlations at the statistical significance level of .01: specialized expertise, leadership and management, ethics and professional standards, professional and personal development, human relations and adaptability, and consultant capability enhancement. High correlations were found between specialized expertise and professional development (r = .848), and between specialized expertise and ethical standards (r = .819).
