Abstract

This survey research aimed to investigate the motivation of students to pursue further studies in the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University. The sample consisted of 50 students who enrolled in the residency program during 2016 - 2022. Data were collected using a questionnaire, with scores categorized into a five-point Likert scale, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean (ð‘ĨĖ…), and standard deviation (S.D.). The results revealed that the overall motivation level of the students was high (ð‘ĨĖ… = 4.04, S.D. = 0.68). When considering each dimension, career-related motivation had the highest mean score, followed by social and economic factors, institutional factors, and personal reasons, respectively. These findings indicate that career-related factors play a crucial role in ensuring career stability, professional advancement, recognition within the profession and society, as well as the positive image of the institution, whereas personal motivation has comparatively less influence.
