The Efficiency Study about Using Instructional Media for Use Laboratory Instruments in Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, Chulalongkorn University

Abstract

          This study aimed to investigate problems related to the use of scientific instruments in the laboratories of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, and to develop an E-learning–based instructional medium for their operation. The study also evaluated the effectiveness of the instructional medium and the satisfaction of its users, which included undergraduate to doctoral students, exchange students, and both Thai and international researchers. Data were collected through user interviews, pre- and post-learning tests to assess effectiveness, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including the mean (M) and standard deviation (SD), were used for data analysis. The findings revealed key issues affecting the use of scientific instruments: difficulty in contacting staff during weekends or outside office hours, the need for self-guided troubleshooting procedures, a convenient problem-reporting system, and appropriate guidelines for instrument use and maintenance. After the development of the E-learning instructional medium via Google Classroom, 75% of users passed the assessment criteria on their first attempt, indicating the effectiveness of the medium. The satisfaction survey yielded an average score of 4.34, reflecting a high level of satisfaction. Although the mean score did not increase significantly after revising the medium, score consistency improved. In conclusion, the developed E-learning instructional medium was effective and met user needs. However, it should be regularly updated to remain current, and the satisfaction assessment tools should be enhanced to make them more engaging, thereby further improving the medium’s overall effectiveness.
