Abstract

Currently, Information Technology project management is necessary. Inadequate project management will result in delays during project implementation. This affects impacted to the departments that need to use the information system to facilitate management and operation. During the outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), The Siriraj Information Technology Department, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital has developed a large number of information systems with urgency. To facilitate patients at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and found that many projects under the responsibility of the Project Manager (PM) have unexpected events during the project implementation and affect the process of information systems development.

This article discusses unexpected events during the implementation of information technology projects and guidelines for remedial actions for the success of the implementation of information technology project management in accordance with the mutual objectives. Comprised of 1) a lack of support from top management 2) Ambiguous determination of project scope and objectives 3) Using inappropriate technology in the project 4) a lack of Knowledge and experience of the system development team 5) A large amount of paperwork and the reports are so overwhelming and 6) Conflict of team member within the project. Those unexpected events and obstacles all resulted in delays in the implementation of the project. Extension of project timeline implementation affects increasing the cost of the project. As a project manager (PM), all unexpected events and obstacles have to be reported and the hierarchy in reporting problems to the top management has to be solved. To complete the project according to the project plan and achieve the objectives.
