The Effects of Using English Nursery Rhymes to Promote Language Development of Early Childhood

The objectives of this participatory action research were (1) to study the current situations of using English Nursery Rhymes (ENRs) to promote language development of early childhood (2) to introduce ENRs in early childhood classrooms and (3) to evaluate the effectiveness of using ENRs for the promotion of language development in early childhood. This Quasi-Experimental Research was conducted with schools in Bangkok in the academic year 2024. The study participants consisted of 6 classroom teachers, 120 preschoolers, and 10 early childhood faculty members. The research instruments were questionnaires for classroom teachers, behavioral observation forms for preschoolers, and a focus group of early childhood faculty members. The research design was a One-Group pretest-posttest, and the efficiency evaluation process was E1/E2. Quantitative data analysis employed descriptive statistics, while qualitative data analysis utilized content analysis. The research results found that (1) the promotion of language development using ENRs in early childhood children was still limited to regular classroom lessons and not being integrated into children's daily routine activities 2) the intervention of using ENRs with SING DANCE & PLAY activities was consistent with the nature and learning preferences of early childhood children and 3) the statistics revealed that after the intervention children had higher average scores in content understanding, pronunciation ability, and confidence in using English at the statistical significance level of .01.
