Abstract

This research employed a quantitative research design using a survey research method and aimed to 1) examine the effects of technostress on job burnout, and (2) examine the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationship between technostress and job burnout. Data were collected using a stratified random sampling method, employing a questionnaire as the primary instrument. The sample consisted of 424 employees working in information technology-based organizations within Thailand. They were divided into 2 groups: information technology organizations and organizations that used information technology as the main principle in their operations. The data were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that 1) three dimensions of technostress—techno-invasion, techno-overload, and techno-insecurity—had significant effect on all dimensions of job burnout at the statistical significance level of .05. Techno-uncertainty showed a significant effect only on emotional exhaustion at the statistical significance level of .05, while techno-complexity did not have significant effect on job burnout across all dimensions. 2) Mindfulness demonstrated a significant moderating role on the relationship between techno-insecurity and two dimensions of job burnout: emotional exhaustion and sense of inefficiency at the statistical significance level of .05. However, mindfulness did not demonstrate a significant moderating role on the relationship between five dimensions of technostress and cynicism.
