The Role of Vision 2030 in Rejuvenating Thailand-Saudi Arabia Relations in the 21st Century

Abstract

This research examines the role of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 in shaping the restoration of diplomatic and economic relations between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The study has two primary objectives: (1) to analyze the policy framework of Vision 2030, and (2) to assess the outcomes of the renewed Thai–Saudi relationship. The findings indicate that Vision 2030 represents a pivotal reform strategy aimed at diversifying Saudi Arabia’s economy beyond oil dependence, structured around three pillars: a Vibrant Society, a Thriving Economy, and an Ambitious Nation. These pillars emphasize sustainable growth, improved quality of life, and international integration. Within this framework, the restoration of Thai–Saudi relations has yielded positive outcomes, including expanded trade and investment, the reopening of the Saudi labor market to Thai workers, increased Saudi tourism to Thailand, and strengthened diplomatic cooperation. Therefore, Vision 2030 serves not only as an economic development blueprint but also as a diplomatic strategy that reflects broader trends in 21st-century international relations, characterized by interdependence, regional connectivity, and global competitiveness.
