Princess Consort Dara Rasmi and Her Works on Archeology and History of Chiang Mai City

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the role of Chao Dara Rasmi, a princess consort of King Rama V, in contributing to the archeological and historical findings of Chiang Mai City.  Most of Chao Dara Rasmi’s involvements in these areas took place after her return to reside permanently in Chiang Mai in 1914 until she died in 1933.

The present investigation found that Chao Dara Rasmi had a keen interest in the archeological works from her wish to help answer the royal policy of King Rama V and her enthusiasm. Not only did she accept the research and study affairs in the Chiang Mai Chronicles Compilation Project under her royal patronage, but she also undertook the survey and exploration activities at the archeological sites.  Her endeavors, dedication, and achievements in these fields were known to HRH Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, the renowned Father of Thai History and Archeology, who then praised Chao Dara Rasmi as a person possessing a remarkable knowledge about history and archeology in Monthon Payap.
