Neoliberalism and the Changing Role of the State in the 21st Century

Abstract
This article examines the influence of neoliberalism on the changing role of the state in the 21st century. It analyzes the key principles of neoliberalism, including privatization, deregulation, trade and investment liberalization, and the reduction of state welfare provision. The article discusses the transformation of the state's role in various aspects, such as downsizing the public sector, shifting from direct control to regulation, promoting competition and innovation, and fostering collaboration among the public, private, and civil society sectors. Furthermore, it analyzes the impacts and criticisms of neoliberalism, particularly regarding social inequality, economic sustainability, and effects on labor and the environment. The article concludes by proposing approaches to balance market mechanisms and state intervention to address contemporary global challenges.
