Enhancing Public Participation in Democracy: Mechanisms and Challenges in the Thai Context

Abstract
This academic article aims to study and analyze participation in democratic systems, with a particular focus on the context of Thailand. The study covers key aspects including the importance of participation in democracy, forms and levels of political participation, mechanisms for participation in Thailand's democratic system, obstacles and challenges, approaches to develop and strengthen participation, the role of digital technology, and lessons from other countries.
The study finds that political participation is a crucial factor in strengthening democratic systems. However, Thailand still faces several challenges, such as social and economic inequality, legal and policy limitations, and a patronage-based political culture. This article proposes approaches to develop political participation, emphasizing education reform, strengthening civil society, and effective use of digital technology.
Moreover, comparative studies with other countries provide important lessons for developing political participation, such as Switzerland's direct democracy system and the use of technology to promote participation in Estonia and Taiwan. The article concludes by presenting future trends and challenges for political participation in democratic systems, including digital politics, participatory democracy, and transnational politics.
