Factors Affecting English Language Competence of University students using Online Learning Media

This research aimed to study the English proficiency level, compare the English proficiency level classified by the studied field of study, and the factors affecting the English proficiency of students in a university using online learning media. This research was a quantitative research. The statistics used in the research were Mean, S.D., t-Test, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the study found that 1) the English proficiency level, both overall and in each competency, of students in the humanities and social sciences and health fields had high English proficiency. 2) The English proficiency level, both overall and in each competency, of students in the humanities and social sciences and health fields had no difference in English proficiency. 3) The factors affecting the development of English proficiency of students in general included the self-discipline factor (β = 0.302), the self-efficacy factor (β = 0.280), and the positive reinforcement factor (β = 0.188), with a predictive coefficient of 47.50 percent (R2 = 0.475). The linear equation predicting the development of English proficiency in general was as follows:English language proficiency development = 2.536 + .152(self-discipline) + .153(self-efficacy) + .090(positive reinforcement).
