The Guidelines for Managing a Meditation Center Based on the Four Bases of Success (Iddhipada 4)

Abstract

This article aims to study and propose a management approach for Dhamma practice centers based on the Four Iddhipadas, comprising Chanda (aspiration), Viriya (perseverance), Citta (concentration), and Vimamsa (evaluation). These principles are applied to enhance and improve the efficiency and sustainability of the centers' operations. The research focuses on analyzing how these Dhamma principles can be integrated into the organizational management of religious institutions. The findings indicate that fostering Chanda within the organization helps motivate staff by cultivating a love and faith in their work related to Dhamma practice and dissemination of Buddhism. This can be achieved through clear vision and mission statements and promoting organizational values that support purposeful collaboration.In terms of implementing Viriya, it was found that creating a well-structured work system and establishing clear guidelines that can be evaluated help staff remain committed to their tasks and effectively handle various challenges. Incorporating Citta into the management practices, which focuses on enhancing concentration and staff engagement, further strengthens their commitment and responsibility. This can be facilitated through activities such as meditation sessions, workshops, and training programs aimed at developing various skills necessary for managing Dhamma practice centers.Lastly, the application of Vimamsa in continuous evaluation and improvement processes enables Dhamma practice centers to enhance the quality of their religious activities and internal management. Collecting and analyzing data from evaluations helps refine work processes, such as revising operational plans, improving management systems, and incorporating innovative practices in the dissemination of Buddhism. This allows the centers to better meet the needs of the community and practitioners effectively.The study concludes that integrating the Four Iddhipadas into the management of Dhamma practice centers significantly contributes to their growth and sustainability. This approach positions the centers as key hubs for the propagation of Buddhism and the cultivation of mindfulness in the community over the long term
