Abstract

This study compares traditional and competency-based assessment approaches in Thai classrooms, analyzing their impact on student engagement, learning outcomes, and educational reforms. However, as education evolves, competency-based assessment (CBA) models, which emphasize skill mastery and real-world application, have emerged as a transformative approach. This study investigates the impact of both methods on student learning, engagement, and long-term outcomes. By comparing the strengths and weaknesses of these two assessment models, the paper offers insights into how the integration of competency-based assessments can foster a more personalized, engaging, and effective learning environment. Challenges, such as teacher preparedness and resource constraints, are also discussed, along with recommendations for educational reforms that align assessments with the competencies required for the 21st-century workforce. Ultimately, this research aims to provide policymakers and educators with practical guidance for optimizing assessment practices in Thai classrooms to improve educational outcomes and prepare students for future challenges.
