AI Usage Policy
AI Usage Policy for FREPJSS Journal
The Journal of Forensic Science, Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and Public Justice Social Science (FREPJSS) recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic research. To ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity, we have established the following guidelines:
1. Authorship and Responsibility
-
AI Cannot Be an Author: AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) do not meet the criteria for authorship as they cannot take legal or ethical responsibility for the submitted work.
-
Human Accountability: Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their manuscripts. This includes ensuring that any content generated or assisted by AI is factually correct and free of plagiarism.
2. Disclosure Requirements
Authors must disclose the use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process. If AI was used, a formal statement must be included in the Acknowledgments section or a dedicated "Declaration of AI Use" section, specifying:
-
The name and version of the AI tool used.
-
The purpose of its use (e.g., "AI was used to improve the linguistic clarity and grammatical structure of the manuscript").
-
Exemption: Basic tools for spelling and grammar checks (e.g., standard spell-checkers) do not require formal disclosure.
3. Ethical Constraints
-
Factual Accuracy: AI is known to generate "hallucinations" (false information). Authors must manually verify all facts, data, and citations provided by AI.
-
Citations and References: Authors must ensure that all references are authentic. Using AI-generated fake citations is considered a serious breach of research ethics.
-
Image Integrity: If AI tools are used to create or manipulate images, graphs, or data visualizations, this must be explicitly stated in the figure captions.
4. Policy for Peer Reviewers
-
Confidentiality: Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading submitted manuscripts (or any part of them) into Generative AI tools. Doing so violates the confidentiality of the peer-review process and the intellectual property rights of the authors.
-
Human Evaluation: Peer-review reports must be the original work of the reviewer and should not be generated by AI.
5. Editorial Rights
The Editorial Board of FREPJSS reserves the right to use AI-detection software to screen manuscripts. Manuscripts found to have undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may be subject to rejection or retraction.
Suggested "Declaration of AI Use" Template for Authors:
"During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [Tool Name/Version] in order to [Reason, e.g., edit the language for clarity]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication."
