Abstract

This article reviews the book Community And Public Health Nursing: A Call To Action, which targets nursing students and nursing educators. The book was published by VIVA Open Publishing, a consortium of Virginia's Academic Libraries, in 2024. All the authors are nursing faculty and work as Assistant Professors and Associate Professors at community colleges and universities across the state of Virginia, USA.

This book focuses on community health nursing roles, competencies, challenges, responsibilities, and opportunities for impact that are best considered through the lens of social justice. For nursing students, the authors emphasize the strategic role of community and public health nurses in improving healthcare for the state, nation, and world. For nursing educators, this textbook aims to fill a gap in the equitable distribution of knowledge by providing a contemporary and comprehensive community health textbook to reduce the costs associated with pursuing a nursing degree. It is designed to support educators in meeting educational goals and developing competencies.
