The Development of Reading Aloud Achievement of Matthayomsuksa 2 Students at Ban Huadong School through Pinyin Reading Exerc

Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to examine whether the learning achievement scores of Grade 8 students at Ban Huadong School after learning through the Pinyin Reading Skill Exercises were higher than the established criterion of 70 percent, (2) to compare the Pinyin reading achievement of Grade 8 students at Ban Huadong School before and after learning with the Pinyin Reading Skill Exercises, and (3) to study the students’ satisfaction with the learning activities on Pinyin reading using the skill exercises.            The sample consisted of Grade 8 students at Ban Huadong School, Na Dun District, Maha Sarakham Province, under the Maha Sarakham Primary Educational Service Area Office 2, during the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The sample was selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments used in this study included (1) one lesson plan, (2) a set of Pinyin Reading Skill Exercises, (3) a practical achievement test consisting of 20 items, and (4) a student satisfaction questionnaire regarding the learning activities using the Pinyin Reading Skill Exercises. The results of the study revealed that: (1) The students’ learning achievement in Pinyin reading after using the skill practice exercises was significantly higher than the set criterion of 70 percent. (2) The students’ post-learning achievement scores were significantly higher than their pre-learning scores at the .05 level of statistical significance, indicating that the practice exercises were effective in enhancing students’ Pinyin reading skills.
(3) The students’ overall satisfaction with the learning activities using the Pinyin reading skill exercises was at a highlevel, with a mean score of 4.15 and a standard deviation (S.D.) of 0.39. The satisfaction levels for all individual items were also at a high level
