Political participation of local citizens refers to creating opportunities for all parties to engage in governing their own area. This can be done in various ways, such as: 1. Citizen involvement in natural resources and environmental matters within the community; 2. Electing local council members and local administrators; 3. Removing local council members and administrators or proposing local ordinances; 4. Holding referendums; and 5. Managing local administrative organizations. Overall, encouraging local citizen participation can be further achieved through: 1. Involving citizens in understanding local issues; 2. Collaborating in decision-making to select solutions; 3. Participating in local activities; and 4. Monitoring, evaluating, and auditing together.
